Chris Rock started his career as a stand-up comedian doing the rounds in New York’s comedy circuit. This then led to minor appearances in Miami Vice and other shows. It wasn’t until he was cast in Beverly Hills Cop II by Eddie Murphy himself that Chris was finally given top billing, as well as a sizeable paycheck. Like most artists in their early days of success, Chris also spent his first paycheck on a car, specifically a Corvette worth $45,000. This proved to be an imprudent purchase, however, because he soon caught the attention of IRS tax officials, which left him in debt and on the verge of bankruptcy. No doubt a financial advisor could have helped him avoid that mistake. Thankfully, Chris’ career continued on its trajectory after that and he was able to recoup his losses and even grow his net worth.
