45 Photos Telling The Full Story Of The Miraculous Andes Tragedy

The Last Ones To Die

In the final days before deciding to seek help, three individuals tragically did not make it to the 72nd day of survival. Amidst this, they heard via a transistor radio that the Uruguayan Air Force had resumed its search operation. Parrado and Canessa set out with only enough provisions to last three days.

They had no technical equipment such as compasses or maps or mountain-climbing experience. Yet, they pledged that if they were to perish, they would do so together in the face of daunting adversities, including oxygen scarcity, a perilous state which could lead to cognitive impairments and physical weakness.
