Famous Unexplained Mysteries: 45 Strange Photos Even Scientists Struggle to Explain

When a UFO Was Mistaken as an Enemy Attack

The Battle of Los Angeles has to be one of the most controversial UFO sightings in history. During World War II, on February 25, 1942, residents of Los Angeles reported seeing a series of strange lights in the sky. The military was initially concerned that the lights might be Japanese aircraft.

Anti-aircraft batteries were ordered to fire on the lights, but they were impervious to the gunfire. The lights eventually disappeared, and the incident was never fully explained. George Adamski took one of the most famous photographs of the “Battle of Los Angeles” and claimed it showed a UFO. However, the photo has since been debunked as a hoax.
