Apart from having one of the cleanest beaches in Maryland, Assateague Island is also well-known for its wild herd of ponies that wander freely on the island’s beaches. They seem cute as they bask in the sun and enjoy a nice tan, even though their skin probably doesn’t need further tanning.
But the cute nature of these horses is only half of the story. What locals know that tourists are not always aware of is that the horses are pretty sneaky. They will use any opportunity to ransack your things, looking for snacks. And you can be sure they won’t go empty-handed (or hoofed, in this case).
