The iconic McDonald’s golden arches, now a global emblem, were not the McDonald brothers’ original vision. Only after selling the business to Ray in 1961 did the design evolve. During an era when roadside diners sought to stand out, especially on highway billboards, Richard enlisted architect Stanley to craft neon-trimmed golden arches emerging from the hamburger stand itself.

Alongside its Speedee chef mascot, this distinctive design effectively caught the eyes until the big takeover. Ray’s leadership brought about the ubiquitous arches we recognize today, but Richard laid the initial design blueprint for this enduring visual identity.
