Ray Ran The McDonald’s Brothers’ Final Restaurant To The Ground

Ray was livid to discover that his contract to buy McDonald’s excluded the original, profitable San Bernardino location. Since the brothers could no longer use their own name, Ray forced them to rebrand their own restaurant as “The Big M.” Still not happy, the former salesman retaliated by opening a new McDonald’s just a block away.

Within six years, unable to compete with Mcdonald’s, “The Big M” shut its grills for good, and the building was eventually sold. Years later, Ray would proudly declare that he ran them out of business, underscoring the ruthlessness that often characterized his approach to expanding the fast-food empire.
