Formerly known as Village of Michigan, Lansing assumed the name of the township it was located in back in 1949. Previously, the capital of Michigan was Detroit, and when the residents moved it to Lansing, the place was a wilderness. Soon, it grew to host a couple of manufacturing companies, including automotive, textile, metal products, and glass. To date, the town is known as an industrial hub of the state.
