Richard Erdman worked as a paperboy when he was literally plucked from obscurity and made into a Hollywood star who ended up working opposite several industry stalwarts such as Bette Davis. He then transitioned to working behind the camera for many years as a director but returned to acting when he became a series regular in Community, which is, by far, one of his most visible jobs today.
