When the Woodstock festival’s popularity increased by word of mouth, people started thronging towards the Bethel farm. Driving from the suburbs of New York was probably the easiest way to get there, but the organizers didn’t realize that Highway 17B couldn’t handle so many cars!

Even the town’s locals, who amounted to just around 4000 in total, were baffled by the crowd, which was a hundred times larger than their entire population. The situation became so chaotic that many had to wait on the roads for hours together, and at this point, snoozing to save some energy was probably the best option.
