Queen Soraya of Iran – 1951

In 1951, the country of Iran saw one of its most lavish and opulent ceremonies when Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi married his queen, Soraya in the famed Marble Palace of Tehran. Back then, the country’s wealth was so massive that she wore a pearl-studded dress made of 37 yards of silver lamé.

It was also adorned by thousands of marabou feathers and diamonds. It weighed a whopping 44 pounds, which makes both the dress and the Queen, a true marvel.
