The Walking Company
The Walking Company was founded in 1991 by Steve Adler and Jim Argyropoulos who were inspired by the comfortable footwear designs of Europe. Back then, it was called The Walking Store, and their first storefront was opened in Pasadena in July of the same year.
Despite setbacks like a fire and several earthquakes, they were able to open more stores within just a year. By 2009, it had 210 stores, but had to close 90 of them after filing bankruptcy. They were able to apply the Chapter 11 protection in 2010. Unfortunately, history repeated itself in March 2018. Thankfully, the company received $10 million in equity and was able to re-emerge from bankruptcy by the end of June.
