Benedict Cumberbatch and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle – 16th cousins
Here’s a familial connection that could only be described as kismet. Actor Benedict Cumberbatch needs little introduction as one of today’s most bankable actors. One of his best known roles is as Detective Sherlock Holmes in the modern-day adaptation of the literary masterpiece written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle over a century ago.
This is very interesting, indeed, as both men can trace their lineage to the first Duke of Lancaster, John of Gaunt, making them 16th cousins. Indeed, who would’ve thought that by publishing the Sherlock Holmes series of books, Sir Arthur was paving the way for his future descendant to become a star.
