The Founder’s Day Celebrations Weren’t For The McDonald Brothers

Maurice and Richard, were the initial architects of what would become the world’s largest fast-food empire. However, their legacy was largely overshadowed by Ray for decades. It wasn’t until 1991, seven years after Ray’s death, that McDonald’s Corporation revisited its history and publicly acknowledged the brothers.

On Founder’s Day that year, TV ads aired crediting both the brothers and Ray for the birth of McDonald’s. This belated recognition came 30 years after the business was sold to Ray and, sadly, too late for Maurice, who had passed away without seeing his groundbreaking contributions fully acknowledged.
