What Happened To The Brothers?
After being outcompeted by a rival McDonald’s, the brothers exited the restaurant scene for good. Richard moved back home to New Hampshire, saying in 1985 that he never really liked California, because of all the sunshine, as he preferred a cloudy day instead.
Although he reconciled with how things unfolded with Ray and McDonald’s, his brother Maurice was not so fortunate. He died in 1971 from heart failure, a loss his family attributed to the stress of his fraught relationship with Ray. The experience, it seemed, had taken a significant toll on Maurice both professionally and personally.
