Despite missing out on a fortune that could have been his, Richard harbored no bitterness towards Ray. In a 1985 Chicago Tribune profile, he was described as “affable and sweet,” refusing to speak ill of Ray, even as a plaque nearby credited Ray as the McDonald’s founder.

Remarkably, throughout the three-hour interview, Richard never expressed a single grievance, he was content as things were. Whenever Ray’s name came up, it was met with only kind words.
