From Max Yasgur, With Love

It’s a commonplace mistake for people to believe Woodstock is named after the town it took place in, which couldn’t be further from the truth, though. Bethel’s sleepy little suburb is where the festival occurred, with Woodstock merely being the company’s name organizing the shindig.

He’s certainly the man to thank for letting the now-iconic music fest go down on his property! Unfortunately, in the years following, Yasgur would face heavy criticism from the surrounding locals, including a lawsuit!
