Paula Deen’s start in the culinary world came from somewhat sad circumstances. After suffering from a series of family tragedies, Paula found herself exhibiting signs of depression and a fear of public places. This compelled her to spend her time at home just cooking. Later, she started a catering service, which then led to her opening a restaurant. Having established herself as a cooking maven, she then authored several cookbooks and starred in several Food Network specials. Despite several brushes with the law in which she’d had to engage lawyers to defend her name, Paula’s $14-million fortune remains largely intact.
