Since 1986, Papaya Clothing has been a ubiquitous presence in many malls throughout the United States of America. They boast an upscale shopping environment for the late teens to young adult market, as well as the junior and petite demographics.
Like many clothing retailers, however, they went through a period of rapid expansion which proved to be ill-timed as mall traffic was declining at that time due to e-commerce platforms and fast fashion chains. As a result, Papaya filed for bankruptcy on June 2017, closing 30 stores in the process. However, they remain open as they struggle to restructure and pay off their debt.
