BCBG means “bon chic, bon genre” in French, which pretty much translates to “good style, good class.” This is exactly what the BCBG distinctly offers through its chic dresses and various apparel available at their specialty department stores. However, faced with competition from cheap, fast fashion brands H&M, Zara, and Forever 21, as well as a growing population that prefers online shopping, BGBC fell victim of the retail apocalypse.
The company filed for bankruptcy in February 2017 and has had to decrease its brick and mortar presence significantly with the challenge of keeping their price points at the same mid-range. Thankfully, they were able to pull through and exit Chapter 11 by August of the same year.
