Large Retailers Which Have Filed For Bankruptcy

Aeropostale

Like many mall-based retailers, Aeropostale started feeling the crunch when mall traffic began to decrease as more and more people favored shopping via e-commerce platforms and mobile apps. This is something that its founders couldn’t have anticipated when the brand was founded in 1987.

Through the years, Aeropostale came under fire for patent infringement and fraud. It then went through a period of loss for a whopping 13 quarters, which prompted its bankruptcy filing in May 2016. The company ended up closing 113 of its 739 stores in the United States and all 41 of its stores in Canada, leaving countless employees sadly without an income source.
