Large Retailers Which Have Filed For Bankruptcy

Hancock Fabrics

Hancock Fabrics was founded in 1957 in Tupelo, Mississippi by Lawrence D. Hancock, and for over 50 years, enjoyed a solid footing as a specialty retailer of fabric and crafts. At some point, it had 266 stores spread out in 37 states. By July 2016, however, all these stores have been closed. It first filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in March 2007. After closing 104 stores, it emerged from bankruptcy just a little over a year later. There were even plans to take the company private in 2014. However, in April 2016, the court decreed that their assets be liquidated and the rest of their stores closed.
